Wind turbine makes its mark

16 September 2008

THE landscape of a Suffolk trade park was changed dramatically at the weekend when a 13-metre-high wind turbine was installed.

The turbine was placed beside the head office for Mediterranean Shipping Company (UK) at Ransomes Europark, Ipswich, using a 25-tonne mobile crane.

With a rotor blade diameter of 11 metres and a motor rating of 20 kilowatts, the turbine is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of the new building by more than 10% – equivalent to providing the energy required by four average homes each year.

Robin Green, of Bower Fuller, which installed the turbine, said it was the culmination of a year’s work and described it as a “modern landmark”.
