New home for shipping agents

February 2009

Mediterranean Shipping Company (UK) Limited has officially opened its new office building MSC House.

The new landmark building stands beside MSC’s headquarters, Medite House, at The Havens on Ransomes Europark and has been built to accommodate the company’s growing workforce, which now numbers more than 530.

MSC (UK) handles the agency work for Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company, which is the world’s second largest shipping line.

Managing director Daniel Everitt said: “We are very pleased to open MSC House. The new office is linked directly into Medite House which has served the company well for many years, but additional space was needed to accommodate the growing staff required to handle the continuing increases in cargo volumes.

“MSC provides an unparalleled service network via our own dedicated offices throughout the world and remains a truly independent and private company. We are able to respond quickly to market changes and implement long term plans without unnecessary interference or delay. With a streamlined management structure in Geneva, MSC has become a leading customer focused and cost effective global transportation solution for many shippers.”

Chairman of MSC David Petchey added: “We would like to thank SEH French, Barefoot & Gilles, Castons Quantity Surveyors, Jackson Civil Engineering, and Bower Fuller amongst others, and are grateful for the successful, and on time, completion of this project. This is a substantial UK headquarters investment that proves our continued investment in, and dedication to Ipswich, the Port of Felixstowe, and the county of Suffolk.”

The opening ceremony was performed by Diego Aponte from MSC Geneva in front of invited guests who went on to an evening celebration at Hintlesham Hall.
