Southwold Pier Hotel for salePier Pavilion and Hotel project to be sold
In December 2009 Stephen Bournes achieved planning permission to replace the old Pier Pavilion at Southwold with a new 30-Bed Four-Star 'boutique' Hotel to be built in the same Art Deco style as the original. Mr Bournes has now decided to sell the Pier, with the benefit of planning consent, rather than develop it himself. Architect Roger Gilles says, "It must have been very difficult for Stephen Bournes to decide to sell Southwold Pier. Barefoot and Gilles worked with Stephen and Antonia for three years to create an Art Deco extravaganza which was set to become a landmark building along the East Coast. The new pier hotel symbolises a resurgence of interest in people taking their holidays at home in England." "Southwold Pier is unique, its location and character are quintessentially English and the hope must be that someone will recognise the opportunity to continue the dream." The Pier is to be marketed by Christie & Co.
